The powerful

The Orenda 380 is an axe from Iconic Tools in close collaboration with our local toolsmith Mirko Günther . All manufacturing steps, from forging to slicing, are carried out entirely by hand. The axe is a small, powerful all-round axe and at the same time a precision tool and is ideal for delimbing trees and chopping firewood.

The axe handle is made of hickory, a low-fiber wood. The long fibers make the wood both strong and flexible. The handle is untreated and works best with a protective layer of linseed oil or beeswax.

Each Orenda axe comes with a hand-stitched blade guard made of chrome-free tanned leather.

Product highlights

ORENDA 380 von Mirko Günther

Traditional blacksmithing: How Mirko Günther makes axes

Mirko Günther is one of the few blacksmiths in Germany who still masters traditional free-form forging. In his hammer forge in Saxony, he makes axes like they did 100 years ago, without modern machines. Every hammer blow is handcrafted and executed with great precision, making each axe a unique piece. This traditional technique gives the tools an exceptional durability and quality that is rarely found in industrially manufactured products. Mirko's dedication to craftsmanship makes his axes valuable companions for professionals and collectors alike.

From raw steel to axe: The complex forging process in Mirko's hammer forge

In Mirko's hammer forge, glowing raw steel is transformed into a high-quality axe through countless hammer blows. The steel is heated at 1200 degrees and then shaped in several steps. The air hammer plays a central role and provides the power needed to shape the steel. Every blow, every moment of heating, is crucial for the end product. But the work is not done there: grinding, hardening and assembling the wooden handle follow until the axe reaches its final shape. A craft process that requires patience and skill.

The advantages of Mirko Günther’s freeform technique

Hand-forged axes by Mirko Günther are characterized by the free-form technique, which makes each axe unique. In contrast to mass production, each piece of steel is individually formed, which guarantees exceptional stability and durability. This method allows the blade to be optimally adapted to its later function - be it for splitting, carving or chopping. The precise handwork means that the sharpness and balance of each axe is incomparable. For users, this means a tool that not only works better, but also lasts longer.

The Orenda axe: your outdoor companion

The name "Orenda" comes from the Iroquois culture and describes a mystical power that is inherent in every living being and gives it the ability to influence and change the world. This idea fits perfectly with the axe, which embodies precisely this power through its craftsmanship. The Orenda axe is your versatile tool for numerous outdoor uses. Thanks to its compact size and low weight, it is ideal for delimbing trees - perfect for forest workers or adventurers. It also masters chopping firewood effortlessly, so you always have enough firewood available when camping or bushcrafting.
