Iconic Tools' fine chef's knives are 100% handmade, making them unique masterpieces of craftsmanship. Each knife in our carefully curated range is unique and combines the highest quality with traditional manufacturing technology. We draw on our expertise and many years of experience that we have gained over decades. Whether you are a professional or amateur chef, our knives offer you the perfect combination of exceptional sharpness, optimal balance, durability and aesthetically pleasing appearance. Our goal at Iconic Tools is to merge tradition and innovation to offer you a kitchen knife that not only cuts, but also gives you pleasure while cooking.

What makes a good kitchen knife?

Kitchen knives are typically between 16 and 25 cm in size and are indispensable companions in the kitchen. A good chef's knife is characterized by the choice of materials, the workmanship and the handling. The decisive factors are the steel used, the hardness (HRC) and the balance between blade and handle. A knife should not only be sharp, but also ergonomic to enable effortless preparation of dishes. Our knives meet these criteria and offer you an incomparable cutting experience. Investing in a good chef's knife will pay off in the long term, as it can last a lifetime if properly cared for.

How our chef's knives are made

Our manufacturing process begins with conceptualization, where we develop design ideas that take into account functionality, aesthetics and current market trends. In the design phase, we create detailed sketches or digital drafts, focusing on ergonomic handles and precise blade shapes. Then, in the material selection phase, we select high-quality materials that ensure durability, performance and visual appeal. We then make wooden prototypes to test practicality and performance. These are tested, refined and optimized to perfection before moving on to production planning. The manufacturing process is closely monitored to ensure consistency and quality. Finally, quality control and design of the packaging takes place, which reflects the high standard of the knives.

The importance of hardness (HRC) in chef's knives

The hardness of a chef's knife is measured in HRC (Rockwell hardness) and is a key factor in edge retention and durability. Rockwell hardness is a method of measuring the hardness of materials, especially metals. It is abbreviated to "HRC", where "HR" stands for "Hardness Rockwell" and "C" for the C scale used. A high HRC value means that the knife will retain its sharpness longer, while a lower value makes it easier to resharpen. The right steel and the optimal hardness make the difference between an average and a first-class chef's knife. Our knives have a hardness of 58-60 HRC.

Sustainable protection for your knife

At Iconic Tools, we want to contribute to responsible consumption. Our chef's knives are delivered with leather sheaths made of chrome-free tanned leather. This type of tanning does not use chromium, a heavy metal that is often used in leather production. Instead, vegetable tanning is used, which uses natural materials such as bark and leaves. This method is more environmentally friendly and produces leather that is not only durable, but also kinder to the skin. The leather sheath protects your knife in a stylish and sustainable way. This keeps your Iconic Tools kitchen knife in top condition.

Which steels does Iconic Tools use?

Our kitchen knives are made of Böhler N690 and 14C28N steels, which are known for their excellent quality. Böhler N690 is a high-quality stainless steel that impresses us with its corrosion resistance and hardness. It offers exceptional edge retention, which means that your knife stays sharp longer and you don't have to sharpen it as often. The chef's knives in the VITOS range use 14C28N steel. This is also a stainless steel that was specially developed for knife blades. It combines high hardness with good toughness, making the knife robust and durable. Both steels guarantee you a long-lasting, easy-care and sharp tool that will give you optimal support in the kitchen.
