Our story
Tool in the DNA.
Jan and his son Julius' love of fine, durable and functional tools has grown over the generations. The foundation for this was laid by Jan's great-grandfather Wilhelm Riepe, who founded the Riepe furniture factory in East Westphalia in 1895, which later became part of the Dula works that still exist today.
As a 5-year-old boy, Jan used almost every free minute to create things out of wood using tools. Training as a carpenter was the logical next step for Jan.
New ways, new knowledge.
Jan spent his first year working as a journeyman in Strasbourg, Valenciennes and Lille with the Compagnons du Devoir. Here he learned about a crucial difference in the training system between the neighboring countries.
While in this country the employers provide the tools, in France every craftsman had to pay a monthly tool allowance for his own tools. This resulted in extremely careful handling of one's own tools and, of course, a love of particularly high-quality tools that had to be correspondingly durable.
The best of the guild and the future.
After this exciting time as a craftsman, Jan decided to study wood engineering, which enabled him to scientifically deepen his knowledge of tool and manufacturing technology.
In 2022, Jan and Julius came up with the idea of combining the best of both: the father's decades-long knowledge of quality tools and the son's visionary, digitally driven ideas of Generation Z. Both are driven by the desire for the highest quality material, the finest tool.
This gave rise to the idea of curating only the finest, most exquisite and tried-and-tested tools and offering them in a shop that leaves nothing to be desired for tool enthusiasts.
